About the Building
11 Woodlawn Avenue West was originally built as St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church. Construction started in 1950 and was completed in 1951 by the dedicated Orthodox community. As the congregation grew over a few decades and by the late eighties more space was needed. A new church was built in Richmond Hill and in 1988 the church on Woodlawn was decommissioned. Shortly thereafter, the Matthews Group converted the building into a six suite residential condo. It was one of the earliest church conversions in Toronto, and remains one of only two conversions in Summerhill. Historic elements of the church remain including the brick facade, soaring cathedral ceilings, and original stained glass windows.
